Embattled CPI(M) ‘poaching’ Christian leaders in Kerala BJP

The Left and Marxist media outlets had carried reports about a few BJP leaders in Kerala joining the CPI(M), “in protest against the BJP’s handling of the Sabarimala protests”. Except for Sibi Sam Thottathil, former Yuva Morcha district president, no one knows the whereabouts of others who left the party. From the looks of it, it was all stage-managed by the CPI(M).
“Their desertion had made no difference to our party. Except for Sibi, no one knows who others are. The pro-Marxist media played it up, as the ‘Communist Fraction’ in the media was very active. We are baffled by the coverage in the so-called national media. It may be because the Marxist Fraction in the Malayalam media might have reached out to a few Pinarayi Bhakts in Delhi. Otherwise I don’t find any reason why a silly news item like this should find a space in a national newspaper. Are so-called national dailies news-starved,” asked a member of BJP IT Cell, Thiruvananthapuram.
Sibi, according to the BJP activist, is a political turncoat. He joined the BJP after it came to power. Using his position, he arranged a job for his wife and a Central School admission for his child. There are rumours that the embattled CPI(M) is indulging in poaching of Christian leaders in the BJP. “They (CPM leaders) are forcing the Church to mount pressure on Christians in BJP to leave the party. Syro-Malabar and Orthodox churches are facing a lot of problems and police cases. The party is learnt to be offering hefty amounts for BJP activists for shifting loyalties to CPI(M),” said Radhakrishnan, a BJP leader. According to him, another small-time Christian youth leader is also on the way out.
Talking about the reasons for his quitting the BJP, Sibi, in a FB post, said that he was upset with the Centre closing FCRA accounts of Catholic Church-run organisations. According to him, about 120 accounts of the Catholic Church were closed. Sibi’s second grudge is that some Union Home Ministry officials had raided the headquarters of Indian Pentecostal Church headquarters at Kumbanad and took away some records since 2007.
Responding to the development, a Twitter handle by the name @Hkupdate writes, “Opportunists will come and go, Only those who are committed to the ideology & cause will stay in thick and thin. Diluting the ideology for short-term benefits will cause more harm in the long run.”
