Last year in June, a dummy test was carried out prior to gold smuggling. The first to be sent were home appliances. Further Faisal Fareed had sent gold to Kerala 13 times through diplomatic luggage, according to latest findings.
Apart from Faisal Fareed, Sarith and Swapna Suresh also acted as intermediaries for other gold smugglers. Gold was smuggled in the same way for them. The probe team has found Ramis as the mastermind behind the gold smuggling. Ramis, who is in remand, will be taken into customs custody on Tuesday.
UAE police takes Faisal Fareed into custody
One of the main accused in the gold smuggling case Faisal Fareed has been taken into custody by the UAE police. It is reported that legal steps have begun to bring him back to India within two days.
Fareed was traced by identifying the location of his mobile number. His attempts to flee from Dubai to other emirates also was in vain due to surveillance as part of coronavirus outbreak.
The Union Home and External Affairs Ministries had also ramped up efforts to extradite Faisal Fareed to India.
NIA to interrogate M Sivasankar; sends letter to Chief Secretary
Thiruvananthapuram. The National Investigation Agency will soon interrogate former principal secretary to the Chief Minister, M Sivasankar. A letter on the same has been sent by NIA to the Chief Secretary.
The NIA has decided to question Sivasankar on the basis of evidence that he had links with smuggling racket.
The NIA has obtained technical and circumstantial evidence against Sivasankar. The accused and Sivasankar were in touch on the phone during the days when the gold was being smuggled.
Apart from this, Sivasankar was present wherever the accused were seen. The NIA will also check Sivasankar’s phone call details and foreign travel documents.
